Every now and then I’ll rediscover The Phantom of the Opera and spend the entire week re-watching the movie and reading the books, which led to me wanting to take a stab at designing the Opera Ghost.
I liked the idea of Erik really leaning into the “angel of music” persona and garbing himself to resemble something holy and pure, all the while carrying a contradictory subtle hint of menace about his appearance that I think is mandatory even when he is masked. Much as I love and honestly prefer the half-mask look made iconic by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, I wanted to try exploring Erik’s visage as it’s described in the original novel by Gaston Leroux; with a full mask and a deformity that spans his entire face.
